The Palm-Sized Friend
Lily sat on her front porch, humming quietly. She had just moved to this new town and hadn't made any friends yet. The wind rustled through her curly brown hair as she sighed and looked down at her open palm.
Suddenly, something magical happened. A tiny sparkle appeared right in the center of her hand. Then another. And another! Before her eyes, the sparkles swirled together and formed a tiny creature no bigger than a grape.
"Hello!" squeaked the little being. It had shimmering blue skin and wild pink hair that stuck up like tiny feathers. "I'm Twinkle! I'm a palm-fairy! We live in the palms of lonely children who need us."
Lily's eyes went wide. "A fairy? In my hand?"
"Yes!" Twinkle did a happy dance right there on her palm. "And I can help you find something wonderful. Follow me!"
Twinkle flew up, her hair streaming behind her like cotton candy. Lily chased after her through the garden, past the house, and into the woods she'd never explored before. The trees seemed to glow as they passed.
"Where are we going?" Lily called.
"You'll see!" Twinkle sang back.
They arrived at a clearing where three other children sat in a circle. Each child had a tiny fairy in their palm too! One fairy had green hair like moss. Another had silver hair like moonlight. The third had hair that changed colors like a sunset.
"These are my friends!" Twinkle announced proudly. "We're all palm-fairies, and we brought our favorite children together."
The children stared at each other in wonder. Then they started talking—about the fairies, about the magical woods, about how they'd all been looking for friends too.
Lily smiled so big her cheeks hurt. She looked at Twinkle, still dancing in her palm. "Thank you," she whispered.
Twinkle winked, her pink hair shimmering. "That's what friends are for. And the best friends sometimes come in the smallest packages."
From that day on, Lily and the other children met in the magical clearing every afternoon. The fairies would appear in their palms, giggling and leading them on new adventures. And Lily learned something wonderful: sometimes, when you're feeling lonely, magic is right there in the palm of your hand, waiting to help you find your way to friendship.
