The Palm Promise

Leo loved running more than anything. Every morning, he'd race through the meadow behind his house, his feet thumping against the grass like a drum solo. But Leo was lonely. He had no brothers or sisters, and the other kids lived too far away to play.

One afternoon, while resting under an old oak tree, Leo noticed something peculiar. A tiny dog with fur the color of sunshine appeared from nowhere and sat beside him. The dog tilted its head, as if waiting for something.

"Hello there," Leo whispered. The dog wagged its tail so hard its whole body wiggled.

Suddenly, Leo remembered what his grandmother had told him before she moved away. "If you ever feel lonely," she'd said, pressing her finger against his palm, "draw a spiral right here and make a wish. Magic listens to brave hearts."

Leo looked at his palm. With a shaky finger, he drew a tiny spiral and whispered, "I wish for a friend who loves running as much as I do."

The sunshine dog barked happily and nudged Leo's hand with its wet nose. Leo laughed and stood up. "Want to race?"

They ran together every day after that. The dog, whom Leo named Sunny, could keep up with him no matter how fast he went. They raced rabbits and beat their own shadows. They ran through sprinklers and jumped over puddles.

One day, Leo noticed something magical. Whenever he traced the spiral on his palm, Sunny appeared, no matter how far away she'd been. And whenever another lonely child visited, Leo would show them the secret.

Soon, the meadow was filled with laughing children and their own magical dogs, all running together under the wide blue sky.

Leo finally understood what his grandmother meant. Magic wasn't just about wishes coming true. It was about sharing them with others, turning one small spark of joy into a whole universe of friendship.

And so every morning, Leo would trace the spiral on his palm, and Sunny would appear, ready for another adventure. Because the best magic, Leo learned, is the kind you share.
