The Palm-Print Promise
Lila loved running through the Whispering Woods, her bare feet pattering on soft moss. She ran every morning before school, following the same winding path between ancient oaks and twinkling streams.
One Tuesday, something extraordinary happened. As Lila paused to catch her breath, she noticed her palm glowing with soft golden light. Curious lines crisscrossed her skin, forming a tiny map she'd never seen before.
"That's odd," she whispered, tracing the glowing path with her finger.
The map on her palm seemed to pull her forward, deeper into the forest than she'd ever dared to go. Lila followed, running now with purpose. The path led past twisted willows and across a babbling brook until she reached a clearing she didn't recognize.
There, sitting on a mossy log, was the most enormous bear Lila had ever seen. But instead of feeling frightened, she felt... safe. The bear's fur shimmered like starlight, and his eyes held the wisdom of a thousand years.
"You came," the bear rumbled gently. "I've been waiting for someone whose heart runs as fast as their feet."
Lila's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"Magical bears can do many things." The bear smiled, revealing surprisingly kind teeth. "Your palm led you here because you have something special inside you—a running spirit that never quits, even when things get hard."
He placed one enormous paw carefully on Lila's shoulder. "I give you this gift: whenever you're scared or tired, look at your palm. Remember that running toward your dreams is braver than standing still."
The golden glow faded from Lila's palm, but something warm remained. The bear touched her forehead with his nose, and suddenly Lila understood—courage wasn't about not being afraid. It was about running forward anyway.
"Thank you," she whispered.
"Run home now, little one," said the bear. "And remember: the fastest path to your dreams is the one you run with your heart."
Lila ran back through the forest, her feet lighter than air. She couldn't wait to see what adventures tomorrow would bring, knowing that courage was glowing right there in the palm of her hand.
