The Orange Tree's Secret
Lily lived in a house with a magical garden. Behind her home stood the oldest palm tree in the neighborhood. Its rough bark was scratched with initials from children who had climbed it over the years.
One warm afternoon, Lily was sitting beneath the palm when something unusual happened. An orange fell from the tree—but this garden didn't grow oranges. Only tall palms and colorful flowers bloomed here.
The orange rolled to her feet, glimmering like a tiny sun. Lily picked it up and noticed something strange. It felt lighter than any orange should. When she gently peeled it, inside she didn't find fruit. Instead, she discovered a tiny goldfish swimming in a pool of shimmering golden light.
"Hello," whispered the fish. "My name is Finn."
Lily gasped. "You can talk?"
"I've been waiting for a friend," Finn said sadly. "I've been trapped inside this magical orange for one hundred years. A wizard cast a spell on me long ago."
Lily's heart swelled with kindness. She ran to her kitchen, filled a beautiful glass bowl with fresh water, and carefully poured Finn inside.
"Thank you," Finn said, doing a happy flip. "For your kindness, I can show you something special."
Suddenly, the water in Finn's bowl began to swirl and glow. Lily gasped as images appeared—other children who needed friends, lonely people who had forgotten how to share, and animals waiting to be loved.
"We can help them," Finn said. "Together."
That day, Lily and her new friend Finn made a promise. They would help others find friendship too. And every evening beneath the old palm tree, they would plan their next adventure—spreading kindness wherever it was needed most.
The magical orange had disappeared, but something better remained: a friendship that would last forever, and the knowledge that the best magic of all comes from a kind heart.
