The Orange Tree Magic
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house. But this time, something strange was happening in the backyard.
An enormous orange tree had grown overnight right in the middle of the garden! Its leaves shimmered like silver, and the oranges glowed with golden light.
"Don't touch the fruit," her grandmother warned. "That's no ordinary tree."
But Lily was curious. She crept outside at dawn and found her grandmother's old cat, Mittens, sitting beneath the tree. Mittens was usually orange with stripes, but today her fur was turning purple!
"What's happening?" Lily whispered.
Just then, the neighbor's dog, Buster, trotted over. Buster was friendly but always barking at nothing. Today, he sat quietly and looked at the tree with wise eyes.
"The tree grants wishes," a soft voice said. Lily spun around. No one was there.
Mittens meowed. Her purple fur sparkled like tiny stars. Buster wagged his tail slowly.
Lily noticed something strange. A single hair from her own head was floating toward the tree, glowing brighter and brighter. When it touched a low branch, the branch began to grow an orange right there!
"The tree needs courage," Lily realized. "Not wishes."
She thought hard about what she truly wanted. Not toys or candy. She wanted something brave.
"I wish," she said clearly, "that every child could have a friend who understands them."
The tree shook its branches. Oranges fell gently to the ground. Each one contained a tiny, glowing seed.
Mittens meowed happily as her fur returned to normal orange. Buster barked once, joyfully.
"Take these seeds," the voice whispered. "Plant them wherever children need friends."
Lily gathered the seeds in her pocket. She knew exactly where to plant them: at school, at the park, in neighborhoods where kids felt lonely.
And that's how orange trees of friendship began growing all over the world. Each tree had a cat sleeping beneath its branches and a dog guarding its roots, ready to help children find their courage.
Sometimes, if you look closely, you can still see the magic glowing in ordinary orange trees, waiting for someone brave enough to believe.
