The Orange That Wanted to Run

Lily was picking oranges in her grandmother's garden when something strange happened. One of the oranges started wiggling in her hand! It rolled across her palm, and before she could catch it, the orange jumped to the ground and started running toward the beach.

"Wait! Come back!" Lily called, chasing after the bouncing fruit. The orange moved fast, rolling over stones and grass, heading straight for the secret cove where the old palm trees grew.

Lily's best friend Mateo was playing by the water when he saw a bright orange ball zooming across the sand. "Lily!" he shouted. "Is that... an orange running?"

The orange stopped right at the base of the largest palm tree, which glowed with golden light. Its trunk bent down like an old friend bowing to say hello. The orange hopped onto the palm's outstretched frond, and suddenly—POOF!

A tiny fairy with orange wings appeared, sitting in the palm of the tree's curved leaf. "Thank you for helping me get home!" she squeaked. "I'm Tangerina, the Orange Fairy. I was stuck in that fruit for three days!"

Lily and Mateo gasped. "You live in the palm trees?" Lily asked.

"Only the special ones," Tangerina explained. "These palms grant wishes to children who help others. You helped me when I was trapped, even though you didn't know what I was. That's true kindness."

The palm tree lowered three coconuts shaped like stars. "One wish for each of you," Tangerina said. "But remember—the best wishes are the ones you share."

Lily thought carefully. "I wish that every child who feels lonely finds a friend as wonderful as Mateo."

Mateo smiled. "And I wish that everyone has a garden as magical as this one, where surprises wait around every corner."

Tangerina clapped her hands. The palm tree showered them with sparkling orange blossoms that turned into tiny running lights, dancing across the beach to grant their wishes.

"What about your wish?" Lily asked the fairy.

Tangerina winked. "My wish already came true. I found two friends with hearts as golden as this palm tree. Now, come back whenever you want—the palms will always be waiting."

And so, whenever Lily and Mateo saw an orange glow at sunset, they knew their magical friends were inviting them on another adventure, where the best magic was kindness shared between friends.
