The Orange That Swam Through Air
Lily loved running through the meadow behind her house, where the grass was tall and the butterflies danced like tiny rainbows. One sunny afternoon, while running faster than ever before, she spotted something magical—an orange glowing near the old willow tree.
Curious, Lily crept closer. The orange light flickered like a little flame. But it wasn't a flame at all. It was a small orange fish, swimming gracefully through the air as if the air were water! Its scales shimmered like sunset clouds.
"Hello there!" Lily whispered, afraid she might scare it away.
The fish turned and blinked at her with big, friendly eyes. "Hello, Lily! I'm Finn. Would you like to see where I live?"
Lily's eyes grew wide. "You can talk? And you're swimming in the air!"
Finn giggled, bubbles floating from his mouth. "I'm a Sky-Fish! I swim through the clouds. Come with me—I'll show you my world!"
Lily nodded, her heart pounding with excitement. "But how can I swim in the sky?"
"Just hold onto my fin," Finn said. "And believe!"
Lily reached out and gently held Finn's orange fin. Suddenly, they lifted into the air! Lily's feet left the ground, and she found herself swimming through the sky beside Finn. The wind tickled her face like a gentle breeze.
They swam higher and higher, past the birds and the clouds. The world below looked like a patchwork quilt—green fields, blue rivers, and tiny houses like toys.
"Welcome to the Cloud Kingdom!" Finn announced.
All around them, other Sky-Fish were swimming through fluffy white clouds that looked like cotton candy. Some were pink, some blue, and some sparkled like diamonds. They played tag among the clouds, leaving trails of rainbow light.
A purple fish swam over. "I'm Pearl! Want to play cloud-tag?"
Lily laughed. "What's cloud-tag?"
"You try to tag someone, and if you do, you get to make the cloud change shape!" Pearl explained.
Lily had never played anything so wonderful. She swam after Pearl, her orange friend cheering her on. When she finally tagged Pearl's tail, the cloud below them transformed into a giant butterfly shape!
"You're a natural!" Finn said. "You belong here with us."
Lily felt so happy, but she also thought of her home. "I wish my friends could see this."
Finn smiled. "They can. Everyone can visit the Cloud Kingdom when they dream. That's our secret—Sky-Fish visit children who believe in magic."
"Will I see you again?" Lily asked.
"Every night when you dream of flying," Finn promised. "And whenever you see an orange cloud in the sky, that's me waving hello!"
When Lily returned home, her feet touched the grass gently. She ran to her room, her heart full of magic. That night, she fell asleep with a smile, knowing that somewhere high above, an orange fish was swimming through the clouds, waiting for her dreams.
And sometimes, when she looked up at the sky, she really did see an orange cloud drifting by, shimmering with a light that was almost—just almost—like a fish fin waving hello.
