The Orange That Swam Like Magic
Mia loved spending summer days at the old pond behind her house. The water there was clear and cool, perfect for wading on hot afternoons. But today was special.
She'd brought her lunch—a bright, round orange from the kitchen. Just as she was about to peel it, something magical happened. A tiny sparkly fish popped its head above the water and looked right at her!
"Please don't eat that orange!" squeaked the fish. "I've been searching for one for three hundred years!"
Mia couldn't believe her eyes. A talking fish! "Why do you need an orange?"
"The Great Water Dragon's scales have lost their glow," the fish explained. "Only the juice of a perfect orange can restore them. Otherwise, all the water in the world will turn gray and sad forever."
Mia looked at her orange, then back at the fish. She thought about how much she loved oranges, but she also thought about all the beautiful water in the world—oceans, rivers, raindrops, and even her little pond.
"You need it more than I do," she said, handing over the orange.
The fish swam right up to the surface and—whoosh! The orange began swimming too! It bobbed and floated, glowing with golden light as it followed the fish deeper into the water. Mia watched in amazement as ordinary pond water transformed into shimmering ribbons of blue and green.
Suddenly, the water around her swirled into a gentle swimming pool of magic sparkles. A magnificent dragon appeared, its scales already beginning to gleam. It thanked Mia with a wink and a splash that rained tiny rainbow droplets.
"Your kindness has saved all the world's water," the dragon said. "And because you gave without asking for anything in return, you can visit us anytime."
From that day on, whenever Mia went swimming in her pond, the water would sparkle with secret magic, reminding her that the most wonderful adventures begin with a single act of kindness.
