The Orange That Swam
Lily loved oranges. Every afternoon, she'd sit on her front porch and peel the bright fruit, savoring its sweet tang. One day, something magical happened.
As Lily peeled her orange, it began to glow golden. She watched in wonder as tiny drops of juice floated into the air, forming shimmering bubbles. Suddenly, the orange wasn't just an orange anymore — it was a portal!
Lily stepped through and found herself swimming in a vast ocean of orange juice. The liquid felt warm and gentle, supporting her like a hug. Fish made of orange slices swam beside her, their fins like little candy wings.
"Hello!" called a voice. "Want to play?"
Lily turned to see a girl about her age, grinning and holding an unusual baseball bat made from a palm frond.
"I'm Mango!" the girl said. "This is the Juice Ocean. We're about to start the big game!"
Lily's eyes widened. Around them, towering palm trees grew right from the orange juice, their leaves forming a magnificent baseball stadium. Magical creatures — some looked like friendly oranges with faces, others like swimming crabs — filled the seats.
"What's the game?" Lily asked, her heart racing with excitement.
"Giant Coconut Baseball!" Mango laughed, tossing Lily a bat. "The coconuts float down from the palm trees. We hit them into the juice to score points!"
They played for hours. Lily discovered that every time she hit a coconut, it would splash into the orange juice and create rainbow ripples. The crowd cheered with tiny bell-like sounds. Swimming felt effortless here, like flying through sunshine.
When it was time to go, Mango hugged her. "You'll always be my friend, Lily. Come back anytime!"
Lily stepped back through the glowing orange portal. She was back on her porch, holding a perfectly ordinary orange. But somehow, it tasted even sweeter now.
From that day on, whenever Lily peeled an orange, she'd smile. She knew that somewhere magical, a friend was waiting, ready for another adventure under the palm trees, swimming in sunshine and playing the most wonderful game in the world.
And sometimes, just sometimes, she'd see a tiny orange slice fish swim through the air before disappearing in a sparkle of golden light.
