The Orange That Sparkled

Emma loved summer days at her grandmother's house, especially the old swimming pool in the backyard. It wasn't just any pool — it was where magic happened.

One hot afternoon, Emma sat by the pool eating lunch. Her orange rolled away from her and bounced right into the water with a splash! Emma reached in to grab it, but suddenly something amazing happened. The orange began to glow!

"Whoa!" Emma whispered.

Dark clouds gathered overhead. Lightning flashed across the sky, and something wonderful occurred. The orange grew little arms and legs! It swam to the surface and climbed onto the pool's edge.

"Hello!" said the orange, whose name was Sparky. "The lightning magic made me alive! Thank you for sharing your lunch with me!"

Emma couldn't believe her eyes. She and Sparky became best friends that summer. They played games by the pool, had tea parties with orange juice, and Sparky would make everyone laugh with his silly orange jokes.

But Sparky had a secret. The magic that made him alive would only last until summer's end. When autumn arrived, he would become a regular orange again.

"Don't be sad," Sparky told Emma when she cried. "I'll always be your friend, whether I'm swimming or rolling. Real friendship lasts forever, no matter what."

Emma kept Sparky safe in a special box. Sometimes, during summer thunderstorms, she would bring him to the pool. If lightning flashed just right, Sparky would dance and glow, reminding her that magic lives in friendship, kindness, and believing in impossible things.

And every time she ate an orange after that, Emma wondered — could this one be magical too?
