The Orange That Sparkled
Lily discovered the most peculiar orange in her grandmother's garden. It didn't look like other oranges. This one glowed softly, like a tiny sun trapped inside peel.
"Grandma! This orange is twinkling!"
Her grandmother smiled, her eyes crinkling like old parchment. "Ah, that's a Wonder Orange. It appears only when someone needs imagination most."
That afternoon, Lily met Toby by the pond. Usually, Toby splashed and laughed while swimming. But today he walked slowly, his eyes dull, like a zombie from her brother's video games—but not scary, just... empty.
"Toby? Are you okay?"
"I forgot how to dream," Toby whispered. "Everything is just gray now."
Lily's heart squeezed. She knew exactly what to do.
"Close your eyes," she said, pulling the glowing orange from her pocket. "I have something that will help."
She peeled the Wonder Orange. Instead of juice, tiny sparkles floated out—each one a different color. Orange, pink, gold, silver.
"These aren't just juice," Lily explained. "They're imagination vitamins. Each sparkle carries a wonder."
Toby inhaled, and the sparkles swirled around him like fireflies. His eyes widened. Colors returned to his face.
"I see..." Toby gasped. "I see clouds made of cotton candy! And fish flying through the sky like birds!"
"Now," Lily said, taking his hand, "let's go swimming—but not in water."
They jumped into the air, suddenly weightless. They swam through clouds that tasted like vanilla. They raced shooting stars. They danced with moonbeams.
By sunset, Toby's laugh rang across the garden, bright and joyful.
"The best vitamins aren't the ones you swallow," Lily told him, pressing the last orange sparkle into his palm. "The best ones are the ones you believe in."
Toby grinned, his eyes shining like newly awakened stars. "And the best adventures are the ones you share with friends."
From that day on, neither of them ever forgot how to dream—and neither did the magical orange, which waited patiently in the garden for the next imagination that needed awakening.
