The Orange That Rolled to Egypt
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. One rainy afternoon, she found something strange - a small wooden pyramid that glowed golden when she touched it. Suddenly, she wasn't in the attic anymore.
She stood in a sandy desert under bright blue sky. Before her rose a magnificent pyramid, shimmering like captured sunlight. But something else caught her eye - a sphinx with the body of a lion and the face of a kind old woman.
"Welcome, young traveler," the sphinx spoke gently. "I've been waiting for someone curious enough to find the magic pyramid."
Lily's stomach rumbled loudly. She realized she'd brought an orange from the kitchen. "Would you like some?" she asked, splitting the fruit.
The sphinx smiled. "How thoughtful! In all my centuries, no one has ever shared their snack with me." As they ate, the sphinx told Lily about the ancient builders who created the pyramid as a gateway between worlds.
"But only those with generous hearts can enter," the sphinx explained. "You've shown kindness by sharing your orange."
Suddenly, desert winds began to swirl. "The gateway is closing!" the sphinx cried. "You must run!"
Lily started running toward the pyramid's entrance. Her legs felt light as air. The sphinx called out wisdom: "True adventure isn't about how fast you go - it's about who you meet along the way!"
Lily reached the pyramid's entrance just as the glowing wooden pyramid appeared in her hand again. She found herself back in the attic, orange peel still in her pocket.
That night, Lily wrote in her diary: "Today I learned that magic exists for those who are kind, and the best adventures are the ones you share."
From then on, she always kept an orange in her pocket - just in case the sphinx ever needed another friend.
