The Orange That Held Lightning
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the backyard with its towering palm tree. One afternoon, while playing under the swaying fronds, she spotted something peculiar tucked among the roots—a bright orange that seemed to glow from within.
Curious, Lily picked it up. The fruit felt warm, as if it held a tiny sun. Suddenly, a small crack appeared on its surface, and out peeked a creature no bigger than her thumb—a little being made entirely of golden light.
"Hello!" said the creature, its voice like the crackle of a fireplace. "I'm Spark, and you've found my orange house!"
Lily's eyes widened. "You live inside oranges?"
"Only special ones," Spark explained, hovering on wings that shimmered like lightning bugs. "This orange grew from magic seeds planted long ago. It protects me from the storm clouds above."
Just then, dark clouds gathered overhead. Thunder rumbled like a hungry tummy. Spark trembled.
"I'm scared of storms," Spark admitted. "The lightning in the sky always tries to catch me."
Lily thought quickly. She cupped her hands around the little friend. "I'll keep you safe! My grandmother says palm trees are the best guardians."
She carried Spark to the palm tree's trunk, where she made a tiny nest among the rough bark. When rain fell and lightning danced across the sky, Spark stayed cozy and protected. The palm leaves bent like umbrellas, keeping the worst of the storm away.
"Thank you, Lily," Spark said when the sun returned. "You're a true friend."
"And you're my friend too," Lily beamed.
From that day on, whenever lightning flashed, Lily knew Spark was safe inside his orange home, tucked beneath their palm tree guardian. She learned that even the smallest friends need help sometimes, and kindness comes in all sizes—even thumb-sized ones made of light.
