The Orange That Glowed
Lily loved exploring the forest behind her house. One autumn afternoon, she noticed something strange—an orange resting on a mossy log that seemed to sparkle in the sunlight.
"That's odd," Lily whispered, reaching out. The moment her fingers touched the orange, it pulsed with a warm, golden light!
Suddenly, a furry brown bear stepped out from behind an ancient oak tree. But instead of frightening her, the bear smiled and waved a wooden racquet.
"Welcome! I was hoping someone would find that magic orange. It only glows for kind-hearted children."
Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"Of course!" The bear chuckled. "I'm Barnaby, and this is my trusty companion, Rusty."
A friendly dog with reddish-brown fur bounded forward, tail wagging excitedly. Rusty dropped a small blue ball at Lily's feet and barked happily.
"Would you like to play padel with us?" Barnaby asked, gesturing to a magical court that had appeared between the trees—a proper enclosed court with glass walls!
Lily had never played before, but Barnaby taught her gently. They laughed as they hit the ball back and forth, the orange glowing brighter with each friendly point. Even Rusty joined in, chasing balls and returning them with muddy paws.
As the sun began to set, Lily's mother called from the edge of the forest. It was time to go home.
"Will I ever see you again?" Lily asked, feeling a sudden sadness.
Barnaby smiled warmly. "That magic orange? Take it with you. Whenever you hold it and think of friendship, the forest path will appear again."
Lily tucked the glowing orange into her pocket, its warmth spreading through her like a hug. She waved goodbye to her new friends and ran home, her heart full of wonder.
That night, Lily fell asleep holding the orange, dreaming of padel games with bears and dogs, knowing that magic exists for those who believe in friendship and kindness.
