The Orange That Fell Upward

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house by the sea. Every summer, she would run across the warm sand until she reached the sparkling blue water that stretched to forever.

One afternoon, Lily sat beneath her grandmother's palm tree, eating a sweet orange. Suddenly, a scruffy little dog trotted up to her. His fur was the color of toast, and he had the friendliest eyes Lily had ever seen.

"Are you hungry?" Lily asked, holding out a slice of her orange.

The dog took it gently, and something magical happened. His eyes widened with wonder, and he jumped up and down like he wanted to tell her something important.

"You want me to follow you?"

The dog barked once and dashed toward the ocean. Lily chased after him, laughing as the sand tickled her bare toes. When they reached the water's edge, the dog stopped and looked back at her expectantly.

The strangest thing happened next. Instead of swimming away from shore, the dog began walking on the water—right toward the setting sun that painted the waves in shades of pink and gold.

"Wait for me!" Lily cried. To her amazement, she could walk on the water too. Together, they danced across the ripples as the sky turned purple, the dog barking joyfully at the seagulls.

Far out, a small island appeared. At its center grew a single palm tree with sparkling coconuts that glowed like tiny moons. The dog led Lily there, and she understood: sharing her orange had unlocked a secret world.

"Grandma will never believe this!" Lily giggled, hugging her new friend.

As the first star appeared, the dog nudged her back toward shore. They walked on water all the way home, under a sky full of wishes waiting to come true.

Lily learned that day: small acts of kindness open doors to magic. And sometimes, the best adventures begin with something as simple as sharing an orange with a friend.
