The Orange That Could Swim
Lily found the orange in her grandmother's garden. But this wasn't just any orange—it glowed like a tiny sun!
"That's strange," Lily whispered, her curly hair bouncing as she bent down. She'd never seen a fruit that hummed before.
The orange rolled toward the pond behind her house. Lily chased after it, running through the tall grass. When the orange reached the water's edge, it did something impossible—it floated on the surface, then sank slowly beneath.
Lily knelt by the pond. The water was crystal clear, and she saw the orange glowing in the depths. But wait—something else was moving down there too!
A small green boy with seaweed hair swam up to the orange. He looked up at Lily through the ripples.
"Hello!" Lily called. "Can you hear me?"
The boy nodded and pointed to something floating near him—a giant leaf of spinach. He swam to it, took a bite, and smiled.
Lily giggled. "You like spinach? That's my favorite vegetable!"
The boy swam to the surface. "I'm Finn," he said. "This pond is magic. Anything that falls in becomes enchanted. That orange you found? It was a birthday present from the pond spirit."
Lily's eyes widened. "Really?"
Finn nodded. "Would you like to see the underwater world? Just touch the water and hold your breath."
Lily reached out. The moment her fingers touched the water, she could breathe! She jumped in and found herself in a magical kingdom with coral castles and fish that sang like birds.
Finn showed her everything—gardens where water lilies bloomed in every color, schools of fish that danced in formations, and an elderly turtle who told stories from ancient times.
"Every creature here has a special gift," Finn said. "What's yours?"
Lily thought. "I'm good at making friends. And I'm brave."
Finn smiled. "Those are the best gifts of all. Bravery helps you try new things. Friendship makes everything magical."
When it was time to leave, Lily hugged Finn. "I'll visit you every day!"
She climbed out of the pond, dripping but happy. The orange bobbed beside her, no longer glowing but still special.
From that day on, Lily learned that trying new things—like spinach or swimming in a magic pond—could lead to the most wonderful adventures. And the best magic of all was friendship, in any world.
