The Orange That Could Fly

Lily's room was magical, especially on Tuesday afternoons. That's when her pet goldfish, Finbar, would swim to the front of his bowl and watch her practice baseball in the backyard.

One sunny day, Lily sat on her bed holding a bright orange she'd plucked from the kitchen. "I wish you could play baseball with me, Finbar," she whispered, pressing the orange against the cool glass of his bowl.

Suddenly, the orange began to glow! It floated from Lily's hand and circled the fishbowl like a tiny sun. Finbar swam faster, his golden scales shimmering with excitement.

"I've been waiting for you to bring the Magic Orange," Finbar said in a bubbly voice. "Only an orange full of sunshine can break the water spell!"

Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"

"Only when an orange grants me temporary freedom," Finbar explained as the magical fruit hovered closer. The orange squeezed itself against the glass, and suddenly Finbar wasn't a fish anymore — he was a small golden boy with wild orange hair!

"Let's play baseball!" Finbar cheered, grabbing Lily's glove.

They ran to the backyard where Finbar, despite never having played before, hit every ball Lily pitched. The orange floated above them like a cheering spectator.

"How are you so good?" Lily asked.

"In my underwater baseball league, we play with pearls," Finbar laughed. "But your ball is much lighter!"

They played until sunset, when the orange began to fade. "Our time is almost done," Finbar said sadly.

As the orange turned back into an ordinary fruit, Finbar transformed back into a goldfish and swam into his bowl. But something had changed — now, whenever Lily played baseball, she could hear tiny splashes of applause coming from her room.

Lily learned that friendship comes in all shapes and sizes, even swimming ones. And sometimes, the most magical adventures start with something as simple as sharing an orange with a friend.
