The Orange That Could Fly

Max loved Saturdays. Every Saturday morning, he would grab his favorite baseball and head to the backyard. But this Saturday was different. As Max stepped outside, something bright and orange caught his eye. An orange! Not just any orange—it was glowing softly, nestled between two stones by the garden pool.

Max reached for it, but the orange rolled away, bounced once, twice, and then—zoom! It flew straight up into the air! Max gasped. The orange was dancing above him, shining like a tiny sun.

"Catch me if you can!" a squeaky voice giggled. The orange had spoken!

Max grabbed his baseball glove and chased after the magical fruit. It led him around the pool, past the garden shed, and straight to the old palm tree that stood tall against the blue sky. The orange zipped up the trunk, but Max couldn't climb that high.

"Please come down," Max called. "I won't hurt you. I just want to be friends."

The orange paused, hovering among the palm fronds. "You promise?"

"Cross my heart," Max said, holding up his hand.

Slowly, the orange floated down and landed gently in Max's open palm. It was warm and fuzzy, and it smelled like sunshine and adventure.

"I'm Oliver," the orange said. "I've been waiting for someone kind to find me."

"I'm Max," he smiled. "Want to play baseball?"

Oliver's eyes widened. "I've always wanted to play! But I don't have any friends. Everyone runs away when they see me flying."

"Not me," Max said. "I think flying oranges are the coolest thing ever."

They spent the whole afternoon playing. Oliver would fly up high and drop down for Max to catch him. Max taught Oliver how to throw the baseball, and Oliver taught Max how to make tiny oranges float in the pool like magical boats.

When the sun began to set, Oliver sighed. "I have to go now. Magic oranges only visit on special Saturdays."

"Will you come back?" Max asked, feeling a little sad.

Oliver glowed extra bright. "Every Saturday. And bring your baseball—I want to learn how to hit a home run!"

Max waved goodbye as Oliver soared into the clouds, trailing sparkles behind him. That night, Max fell asleep with a smile, dreaming of oranges that could fly and the best friend he'd ever made.

Sometimes, Max discovered, the most wonderful adventures start with something as simple as finding a glowing orange by the pool.
