The Orange That Changed Everything
Maya stood beneath the swaying palm tree, her baseball mitt gathering dust. She'd missed every pitch at practice today. Again.
The warm breeze shook the tree's branches, and a bright orange tumbled down, landing right in her glove.
"Weird," Maya whispered. The orange glowed like a tiny sunset. She peeled it open and discovered something magical—inside were little sparkles that looked like vitamin dust. When she took a bite, she felt fizzy and light.
Her friend Leo ran over, holding a strange racquet. "Want to learn padel? It's like tennis but way more fun!"
Maya nodded, something strange happening. When she swung the racquet, she could see exactly where the ball would go. That orange must have been magic!
All afternoon, she played padel and baseball like a champion. Every serve was perfect. Every pitch was precise. Leo cheered, "You're amazing!"
But as the sun set, Maya noticed the other kids sitting alone, looking sad. They'd missed every shot too.
Maya looked at the palm tree. There were more oranges glowing in its branches.
"I could keep this magic to myself," she thought. "Or..."
She climbed the tree and gathered enough oranges for everyone. She handed them out, explaining about the special vitamins inside.
One by one, her new friends tried the oranges. One by one, they started smiling, laughing, playing better.
But here's what Maya didn't expect—the magic wasn't in the oranges at all. It was in something else.
"We did it together," Leo said later, high-fiving her. "That's why we're all having fun now."
Maya looked at her empty orange peel. The real magic hadn't been the sparkles inside. It was sharing.
That night, she hung her baseball mitt on the wall and smiled. Sometimes, the best vitamin isn't something you swallow. It's called friendship.
