The Orange That Caught Lightning
Mia lived in a small house beside a giant palm tree that leaned over her bedroom window. Every morning, she'd press her palm against the trunk and whisper good morning to the tree. The palm seemed to wave back in the breeze.
One summer evening, while Mia watched the sky turn purple, a single orange ripened perfectly on the lowest branch. It glowed like a tiny sun against the dark clouds gathering above.
"I'll pick you tomorrow," Mia promised.
That night, a fierce storm rolled in. Lightning cracked across the sky—flash after flash, like nature's fireworks. Mia pressed her nose to the glass, watching in wonder.
Suddenly, the biggest bolt she'd ever seen struck the palm tree! But instead of hurting the tree, the lightning danced down the trunk and zapped right into that single orange.
Mia gasped. The orange began to pulse with golden light—warm, gentle light that filled her whole room.
When the storm passed, Mia rushed outside and reached up her palm. The orange fell into her hand, still glowing with captured lightning. It wasn't hot. It felt like holding a piece of starlight.
"What are you supposed to do with a lightning-orange?" she wondered.
Then she remembered—her grandmother couldn't sleep in storms because the darkness scared her. Mia ran next door and placed the glowing orange on her nightstand. The warm light chased away all the shadows.
"My magic orange," her grandmother smiled, patting Mia's palm. "You've brought me the sunshine."
Every storm after that, Mia would hold up her palm and wait for the lightning to come. The tree always gave her a special orange, and she would carry its light to anyone who needed it.
Mia learned that magic isn't about having special powers—it's about sharing what you have to light up someone else's dark night. And sometimes, the most wonderful things come from the most surprising places, like an orange that caught lightning.
