The Orange That Caught Lightning

Lily loved thunderstorms. She would press her nose against the window, watching flashes paint the sky.

One rainy afternoon, Lily spotted something peculiar in the garden. An orange sat on the grass, glowing from within like a tiny sun. As she approached, a crack of **lightning** struck nearby—but instead of burning the fruit, the orange seemed to drink it in, pulsing brighter.

Lily's grandmother had given her an old **iPhone** to play games on. Now, as she held it near the glowing orange, the screen flickered to life on its own. Words appeared: "Vitamin needs help."

"Vitamin?" Lily whispered.

The orange split open like a magical door. Inside sat a tiny creature made of sparkling light—a little lightning person, no bigger than her thumb. The creature flickered weakly.

"I'm Vitamin," the little being squeaked. "I got stuck in your orange during the storm. I need to reach the Cloud Garden before I fade away."

Lily knew what she had to do. She grabbed the orange with Vitamin inside and started **running**. Her sneakers slapped against the wet pavement as she sprinted toward the highest hill in town—her grandmother said it was the closest place to the clouds.

Rain soaked her hair. Mud splashed her legs. But Lily kept running, cradling the glowing orange like a treasure.

"Almost there," Vitamin chirped, growing slightly brighter.

At the hill's peak, Lily held the orange high. The clouds parted. A beam of golden sunlight poured down like a staircase. Vitamin leaped from the orange, dancing up the light beam until they disappeared into the fluffy white clouds above.

The **orange** in Lily's hand now looked ordinary. Her iPhone screen showed one final message: "Thank you, friend."

Lily walked home slowly, tired but happy. Her grandmother met her at the door with a real orange slice and a warm towel.

"You look like you've been on an adventure," she said.

Lily just smiled and took a bite of her orange. It tasted like magic.

From that day on, whenever storms rolled in, Lily watched for glowing fruit. She never knew when she might make another magical friend—and she was always ready to run to their rescue.
