The Orange That Caught Lightning

Lily loved two things most in the world: her scruffy terrier named Barnaby, and the old orange tree in her backyard. Every summer, the tree dropped the sweetest oranges, but this year was different.

One stormy evening, while thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy, Lily spotted something glowing beneath the orange tree. Barnaby barked happily, his tail wagging like a metronome on fast-forward.

There, nestled between the roots, sat the most peculiar orange Lily had ever seen. It shimmered like a sunset trapped in fruit form, pulsing with a warm, golden light that seemed to hum.

"What do you think it is, Barnaby?" Lily whispered, reaching for the mysterious orange.

Just as her fingers brushed its bumpy skin, a brilliant flash of lightning illuminated the entire backyard. CRACK-BOOM! The thunder shook the ground beneath them.

But the strangest thing happened—the orange didn't fall from the tree. Instead, it seemed to drink in the lightning's energy, glowing even brighter!

Barnaby whined softly, nudging Lily's hand. She understood. This wasn't just an orange. It was magic.

Lily carefully cradled the glowing fruit as Barnaby led her toward the old garden shed, where their neighbor Mr. Chen was struggling to start his generator. The storm had knocked out power, and Mr. Chen needed electricity for his wife's medical equipment.

"I wonder," Lily thought, looking at the pulsing orange in her hands. "Could this help?"

Gently, she touched the orange to Mr. Chen's generator. WHOOSH! A brilliant stream of orange-colored lightning flowed from the fruit, bringing the machine to life instantly.

Mr. Chen's face lit up with relief and wonder. "How did you—"

Lily smiled, patting Barnaby's head. "Sometimes the most magical things come from the most ordinary places."

That night, as Lily drifted to sleep with Barnaby curled at her feet, she watched the orange glow softly on her nightstand, a tiny lightning bolt still dancing inside its golden heart. Some treasures, she realized, were meant to be shared, and the best magic always came with a faithful friend by your side.
