The Orange Sphinx's Secret
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house by the sea. Every morning, she'd run to the palm tree that swayed like a dancing friend in the warm breeze. But today was special.
An orange rolled across the sandy path—a bright, shiny orange that shouldn't be there. Lily picked it up and gasped. Two eyes opened on its surface!
"Hello, little one," said the orange. "I'm the Sphinx of Citrus, guardian of the magical grove."
Lily rubbed her eyes. "You're a sphinx? But you're an orange!"
"That's my disguise," the orange sphinx replied. "I protect the most precious treasure in the world."
"What treasure?" Lily asked, her eyes wide.
"Kindness," said the sphinx. "I've been watching you. You always help your grandmother, feed the stray cats, and smile at everyone. That's why I've appeared."
The sphinx rolled to the base of the palm tree, where a golden glow appeared. Inside was a small mirror.
"Look," said the sphinx.
Lily looked and saw herself surrounded by shimmering light. "I see... me?"
"Exactly," the sphinx said. "The greatest magic isn't gold or jewels. It's the kindness in your heart. That's the real treasure."
Lily hugged the orange sphinx tight. "Will I ever see you again?"
"Whenever you do something kind, I'll be there," the sphinx whispered. "In the warmth of the sun, in the sweetness of fruit, in the rustle of palm leaves. Look for the magic in being good."
The orange became ordinary in Lily's hands, but she knew it wasn't really ordinary at all. She ran to show her grandmother, carrying both the orange and the magical secret in her heart.
From that day on, Lily remembered: true treasure isn't something you find—it's something you share. And sometimes, magic comes in the most unexpected packages... even an orange.
