The Orange Sphinx's Secret

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's attic. It was filled with dusty treasures and mysterious boxes. One rainy Saturday, while exploring behind a stack of old books, she discovered something extraordinary.

A small stone statue sat on the highest shelf—a tiny sphinx with bright orange wings that seemed to glow in the dim light. Its face looked kind, not scary like the pictures in her storybooks.

"Hello, little friend," a soft voice whispered.

Lily jumped! The sphinx was speaking!

"I've been waiting for someone like you," the orange sphinx said, stretching its stone wings. "Someone who believes in magic."

"But sphinxes are supposed to be enormous and scary," Lily said.

"Size doesn't matter," the sphinx replied. "What matters is heart. Would you like to see my secret garden?"

Lily nodded. The sphinx breathed on a dusty mirror, and suddenly they were somewhere else—a magical garden where flowers sang and trees danced.

In the corner stood a small, green creature. It moved slowly and looked sad.

"That's a zombie!" Lily gasped. "They're scary!"

The orange sphinx shook its head. "That's Zombil. He's not scary at all. He's just lonely because everyone runs away before meeting him."

Zombil shuffled closer. "Would... you... be... my... friend?" he asked slowly.

His voice sounded like autumn leaves crunching. Lily realized he wasn't scary—he was just shy.

"Yes!" she said. "I'll be your friend!"

Zombil smiled, and his face brightened. Together, they played hide-and-seek among the singing flowers, ate magical oranges that made you float, and danced with the friendly trees.

When it was time to leave, the orange sphinx whispered an important lesson: "Never judge someone by how they look or move. True friends are found in the most unexpected places."

Lily hugged her new friends. As the mirror faded back to grandmother's attic, she knew she would return. After all, the best adventures are the ones you share with friends—even unexpected ones.
