The Orange Sphinx's Secret
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. One rainy afternoon, she found something extraordinary tucked behind an old painting—a small, stone figurine of a sphinx with bright orange eyes.
"How peculiar," Lily whispered, picking it up. Suddenly, the sphinx blinked!
"Thank goodness!" the tiny creature squeaked. "I've been stuck in that box for three hundred years!"
Lily nearly dropped it. "You can talk?"
"I'm Zephyr, royal spy of the Sphinx Kingdom," the orange creature announced proudly. "I was on a secret mission to find the lost Lightning Gem when your great-great-grandfather trapped me!"
"What's a Lightning Gem?" Lily asked.
"It's what makes the Sphinx Kingdom glow! Without it, our magical desert kingdom will go dark forever. I saw the gem flash lightning-blue from this very house yesterday evening!"
Lily's eyes widened. "I saw a blue sparkle in the garden!" She grabbed Zephyr and rushed outside, where an orange tabby cat sat playing with something shiny and blue—the Lightning Gem!
"Max!" Lily called softly. The cat looked up guiltily. "May we please borrow that?"
Together, Lily and Zephyr explained why the gem was so important. Max reluctantly dropped it into Zephyr's tiny paws.
"Thank you!" Zephyr chanted, and suddenly—FLASH!—a bolt of golden lightning shot from the gem into the sky. Within moments, a beautiful desert portal appeared.
"You helped save my kingdom!" Zephyr said, handing Lily a small orange stone. "If you ever need me, just hold this and call my name. Any friend of lightning is a friend of mine!"
Lily waved goodbye as Zephyr disappeared through the portal. Sometimes the best adventures start with the most unexpected friendships—and an orange sphinx who needed a little help from a friend.
