The Orange Sphinx's Secret
Lily loved exploring the desert near her home. Every morning, she'd pack her small backpack with her most important treasure: a round, juicy orange from her grandmother's tree.
One particularly hot afternoon, Lily noticed something strange. A large creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human was resting near the old rocks. Its fur shimmered like sunset— brilliant shades of orange and gold.
"Are you a sphinx?" Lily whispered, remembering stories from her storybook.
The sphinx opened one golden eye. "I am," it rumbled softly. "And I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find my secret."
Lily's heart raced with excitement. "What secret?"
The sphinx sat up and stretched. "In the middle of this desert lives a magical bull. He creates sweet water wherever he walks, but he's lonely because everyone is afraid of his sharp horns."
Lily thought about this. "He sounds lonely, not scary."
The sphinx smiled. "Exactly. Would you like to meet him?"
Lily nodded eagerly. Together, they walked deeper into the desert until they found a gentle bull with a coat like starlight. He looked surprised to see visitors.
"I brought you an orange," Lily said, holding out her fruit. "It's the sweetest one from my grandmother's tree."
The bull's eyes lit up. He took the orange carefully with his lips and ate it in one bite. Then, something magical happened— from his hooves, crystal-clear water bubbled up, creating a small pool.
"Thank you," the bull said. "No one has ever given me a gift before."
"We'll be your friends," Lily promised.
And so, the orange sphinx, the water bull, and brave Lily became the best of friends. Every day, they'd share oranges and stories, and the bull's water helped all the desert creatures thrive.
Lily learned that sometimes the most wonderful friends come in the most unexpected packages— and that kindness is the greatest magic of all.
