The Orange Sphinx's Secret

Lily discovered the old iphone hidden in a dusty box in her attic. It didn't look like regular phones—its screen shimmered like a sunset. When she touched it, the device pulsed with warm orange light, and suddenly she was somewhere else entirely.

She stood beside a crystal lake where water sparkled like liquid diamonds. Rising from the shore was a magnificent creature—a sphinx with the body of a lion and wings of a hawk. But this sphinx was special: its fur glowed the same brilliant orange as the magical iphone.

"I've been waiting for you," the sphinx said in a voice like gentle chimes. "I am Cleo, guardian of the Lake of Dreams. But I have a problem."

Lily's eyes widened. "What kind of problem?"

Cleo sighed, and her orange fur dimmed slightly. "Sphinxes are meant for land and air, but my best friend is a water sprite named Marina. She lives in this lake, and I can never visit her because..." Cleo's voice dropped to a whisper. "I don't know how to go swimming."

Lily gasped. "You've never tried?"

"Sphinxes don't swim," Cleo said sadly. "But Marina celebrates the Festival of Bubbles tomorrow, and she asked me to join her. I don't want to disappoint my friend."

Lily thought about how scared she'd been when learning to ride her bike. "Maybe I can help! My grandpa taught me to swim last summer."

Together, they practiced. Cleo was clumsy at first, her paws slipping on the smooth stones. The sphinx growled in frustration. "I can't do this!"

"Yes, you can," Lily said firmly. "Remember why you're doing this. For Marina."

Cleo took a deep breath and tried again. This time, she paddled slowly, then found her rhythm. Soon, the orange sphinx was gliding through the water like she was born to swim.

The next day, Cleo and Lily swam together to the Festival of Bubbles, where Marina the water sprite threw sparkling spheres of water that turned into rainbows in the sunlight.

"You came!" Marina cheered, hugging her sphinx friend.

Cleo winked at Lily. "I had a wonderful teacher."

As the iphone glowed to take Lily home, she realized something important: being brave doesn't mean not being scared. It means trying anyway, especially for the ones you love.
