The Orange Sphinx's Secret
Lily was playing in her backyard when something amazing caught her eye. Near the old swimming pool sat a creature she'd only seen in books—a sphinx! But this sphinx wasn't made of stone. It had bright orange fur that shimmered like sunset, and its emerald eyes twinkled with kindness.
Lily's golden retriever, Max, came running across the grass, tail wagging wildly. Instead of barking, Max sat down beside the sphinx and let out a happy bark.
"Hello there!" the sphinx said in a voice like gentle bells. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me."
Lily approached slowly. "Are you... real?"
"As real as your imagination," the sphinx replied with a mysterious smile. "My name is Amber, and I guard something very special in this pool."
The pool water had turned into liquid rainbow! Colors swirled together, creating the most beautiful thing Lily had ever seen.
"This is the Pool of Dreams," Amber explained. "But I can only share its magic with true friends."
Lily looked at Max, who was now resting his head on Amber's paw. "Max seems to trust you."
"Your dog knows a good heart when he meets one," Amber said. "Real friendship isn't about how someone looks—it's about kindness and trust."
Lily felt warm inside. "I'd like to be your friend, Amber."
The sphinx's orange fur glowed even brighter. "Then touch the water, and make a wish!"
Lily reached into the magical pool. She wished that everyone could find a friend like Amber—someone who teaches them that true beauty comes from within.
"Wonderful choice!" Amber laughed. "Your wish is already coming true. You learned it yourself!"
That summer, Lily, Max, and Amber spent every afternoon together. And though Amber eventually returned to her magical home, Lily never forgot the most important lesson: the best friends are the ones who help you see with your heart, not just your eyes.
