The Orange Sphinx's Secret

Lily pressed her nose against the rainy window, watching bolts of lightning streak across the purple sky. Her golden dog Barnaby nudged her hand with his wet nose, whining softly. He always knew when she was feeling lonely on stormy evenings.

"Let's go exploring," Lily whispered, grabbing her flashlight. Something shimmered in the garden below - an orange glow that pulsed like a heartbeat.

Barnaby bounded down the stairs, his paws clicking on the hardwood. Together they crept outside, where the rain had stopped. There, perched on the old stone fountain, sat a creature Lily had only seen in books - a sphinx! But this one was different. Its fur was the color of a fresh orange, and its wings shimmered like pearls.

"Greetings, young one," the sphinx spoke in a voice like wind chimes. "I am Clementine, guardian of the Lightning Vitamins."

"Lightning what?" Lily gasped.

"Vitamins!" Clementine explained, opening her paw to reveal tiny crystals that glowed with captured lightning. "These magical specks give courage to creatures who need it most. But a terrible storm scattered them all over your garden!"

Barnaby sniffed the ground excitedly. The first vitamin was hiding under a pumpkin leaf - orange, just like the sphinx! Another was stuck to a garden gnome's hat. A third was caught in a spiderweb.

"We'll help you find them all!" Lily declared. She and Barnaby searched until the moon rose high above, collecting every glowing crystal. When they returned, Clementine's eyes filled with grateful tears.

"You've shown true kindness," the sphinx said, pressing one special vitamin into Lily's palm. "This one's for you - it's the Vitamin of Bravery. Use it whenever you feel afraid."

The sphinx dissolved into a swirl of orange sparkles, leaving behind a single orange blossom on the fountain's edge.

That night, Lily fell asleep with Barnaby curled at her feet, the lightning vitamin tucked safely under her pillow. She knew now that even the scariest storms could bring the most magical friendships - and that true courage comes from helping others.
