The Orange Sphinx's Secret
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's dusty attic. On rainy afternoons, she'd sneak up the creaky stairs and discover treasures from long ago. But nothing prepared her for what she found behind an old painting of a pyramid.
There, tucked into a small velvet box, lay a tiny orange stone shaped like a cat's eye. When Lily picked it up, the stone felt warm against her palm, almost like it was alive.
"Who disturbs my rest?" a voice rumbled.
Lily jumped and dropped the stone. But instead of hitting the floor, it floated in mid-air and grew larger and larger until—POOF!—a magnificent sphinx appeared. He had the body of a lion, golden wings, and wise amber eyes.
"I am Orion," the sphinx said gently. "And you've awakened me from a hundred-year nap. Thank you, small human."
Lily's dog, Buster, who had been sleeping in the corner, woke up and trotted over. The bulldog sniffed Orion's paw and let out a happy yip.
"A noble companion!" Orion declared. "Animals sense true friendship."
"But sphinxes are supposed to be scary," Lily whispered. "And ask riddles."
Orion laughed, a sound like wind chimes. "That's just a story people tell. Real sphinxes love orange treats and good friends."
He reached into his golden fur and pulled out an orange that glowed like magic. "Would you like to see my favorite trick?"
Orion tossed the orange to Buster, who caught it joyfully. But when the bulldog bit into it, instead of juice, golden sparks flew out and filled the attic with tiny floating lights.
"Every friendship creates magic," Orion explained. "The orange represents kindness—sweet, bright, and meant to be shared."
Lily's eyes widened. "That's the secret?"
"The biggest secret of all," Orion nodded. "And now I must go. But remember—real magic isn't in spells or potions. It's in the orange moments you share with friends."
With a final wink, Orion transformed back into the stone. Lily tucked it safely back in its velvet box. That night, she shared her dinner with Buster, and somehow, it tasted sweeter than ever before.
Some secrets are worth keeping—especially the ones about kindness, friendship, and the magic of sharing orange moments with those you love.
