The Orange Sphinx's Secret
Lily discovered the mysterious orange pyramid tucked behind her grandmother's dusty bookshelf. It glowed like a tiny sunset, warm and pulsing with gentle light. At only six years old, Lily knew magic when she saw it.
"What are you?" she whispered, reaching out with curious fingers.
Suddenly, the pyramid unfolded like paper, revealing a miniature sphinx no bigger than her thumb. But this sphinx wasn't made of stone — it was crafted from something wonderfully unexpected.
"I'm made of orange peels!" the tiny sphinx announced in a voice like chimes. "My name is Zest, and I've been waiting for someone pure of heart to find me."
Lily gasped with delight. "You're magical!"
"Indeed," Zest said, stretching his orange-peel wings. "I can grant one wish to the child who can solve my riddle. But you must answer with your heart, not just your head."
Lily nodded solemnly. "I'm ready."
"What is golden like the sun, sweet like candy, but can make you pucker if you're not careful?"
Lily thought carefully. She remembered her mother's smile when she made fresh orange juice. She remembered summer afternoons sharing orange slices with her best friend Maya. She remembered how something so small could bring such joy.
"An orange," Lily said softly. "Because it's sweet, but sometimes a little sour — just like friendship."
Zest's eyes twinkled like tiny stars. "You answered with your heart. Your wish is granted."
"I wish that everyone could find a magical friend like you," Lily said without hesitation.
The orange pyramid flared brighter, and suddenly hundreds of tiny orange sphinxes filled the room, each one ready to find a lonely child and become their friend.
"You gave up your wish for others," Zest said, landing on Lily's shoulder. "That's the most powerful magic of all."
From that day on, Lily and Zest had wonderful adventures together. And somewhere out there, other lonely children were discovering their own magical sphinx friends — all because one little girl understood that the best magic is the magic of sharing happiness with others.
