The Orange Sphinx's Running Secret

Lily loved running through her grandmother's garden, especially when the orange trees were heavy with ripe fruit. One afternoon, while racing the wind between the ancient stone statues, she noticed something strange.

The largest statue—a sphinx with the gentlest face—had moved.

Lily stopped running. The sphinx's orange-painted stone body gleamed in the sunlight, its eyes twinkling like tiny stars.

"You're fast," the sphinx rumbled, its voice like distant thunder.

Lily gasped. "You can talk?"

"Only to children who love running as much as I do." The sphinx stretched its orange wings. "I was the fastest runner in all of Egypt, three thousand years ago. But I was too proud. I forgot that running isn't about winning—it's about the joy of movement. So the Great Spirit turned me to stone until I learned my lesson."

"What lesson?" Lily asked, stepping closer.

"That true champions help others cross the finish line." The sphinx smiled. "I've been watching you, Lily. You always let your little brother win sometimes. You share your orange slices with friends who forget their snacks. You run with your heart, not just your legs."

The sphinx's orange stone began to glow softly. "Thank you for reminding me what running really means."

As Lily watched, the sphinx's form shifted and changed until a magnificent orange cat stood before her—a real, living sphinx cat with the same wise eyes.

"I'm free!" the cat purred. "And I have someone to thank." It nuzzled Lily's hand. "Keep running with kindness, and you'll always be a champion."

From that day on, whenever Lily went running through her grandmother's garden, an orange cat with extraordinary wisdom ran beside her, and every finish line felt like a new adventure worth sharing.
