The Orange Sphinx's Gift

Lily loved exploring behind her grandmother's garden, where the grass grew tall and wild. One hot afternoon, she followed a trail of fluttering butterflies until she found something she'd never seen before.

Resting beneath an ancient willow tree was the most peculiar creature Lily had ever seen. It had the body of a lion and the head of a wise, old person. Its fur was the color of a ripe **orange**, gleaming golden in the sunlight.

"Hello, little one," the creature said gently. "I am a **sphinx**, and I have been waiting for you."

Lily's eyes went wide. "A sphinx? But you're just in stories!"

"Stories come from somewhere," the sphinx chuckled, its whiskers twitching. Behind it sat a small crystal bowl filled with sparkling **water** that shimmered like liquid diamonds.

"This water holds a special **vitamin** for your heart," the sphinx explained. "One sip will make you brave. But I can only share it with someone who will become my **friend**."

Lily thought carefully. She remembered how lonely she felt sometimes at school, never quite fitting in. The sphinx looked lonely too, waiting all this time beneath the willow tree.

"I'll be your friend," Lily said softly, reaching out her hand. "Not because of the special water. Just because you seem nice."

The sphinx's amber eyes crinkled with happiness. "That," it said, "is exactly why you deserve it." It nudged the crystal bowl toward her.

Lily took one tiny sip. It didn't taste like anything she could describe—like sunshine and starlight and warmth all mixed together. But suddenly, she knew something important: she had been brave all along. Making friends without asking for anything in return? That was the real magic.

Every day after school, Lily visited her orange sphinx friend. She learned that true courage isn't about being fearless. It's about being kind even when you're scared, and opening your heart to new friends.

And whenever she felt uncertain at school, she'd remember the sphinx's golden fur and sparkling eyes, and she'd remember: she was brave enough to be a friend, and that was the strongest magic of all.
