The Orange Sea Friend

Lily loved swimming more than anything. Every summer day, she would dive into the cool blue water of Crystal Lake, her long brown hair floating behind her like seaweed. But today was special.

As Lily swam deeper than usual, she saw something glowing near the bottom. It was bright orange, like a tiny sun trapped underwater. Curious, she dove down and discovered a small sea creature with flowing orange hair that shimmered like silk.

"Hello!" the creature said, surprising Lily. "I'm Oona, and I've been waiting for a friend."

Lily couldn't believe her ears. "You can talk?"

"Of course!" Oona giggled, her orange hair rippling in the water. "I'm a water sprite. I've watched you swimming here all summer. You seem kind and brave."

Oona took Lily's hand and showed her secret underwater gardens where flowers bloomed in rainbow colors. They played tag with schools of silver fish and raced with turtles. Lily had never felt so free.

"Will you be my friend forever?" Oona asked as the sun began to set.

"Yes!" Lily promised. "But I can't stay underwater forever."

Oona smiled mysteriously. "True friends find ways to stay connected." She touched Lily's forehead with one orange finger. "Now, whenever you swim, think of me, and we'll be together in spirit."

From that day on, Lily noticed something magical. Her brown hair now had tiny streaks of orange that sparkled in the sun. And every time she went swimming, she felt Oona's presence, like a warm hug from an old friend.

Lily learned that the best friendships aren't limited by where you live or what you are. They live in your heart, connecting you across all worlds—water and land, magic and ordinary. And sometimes, if you're lucky, swimming in a lake can lead to friendship that lasts forever.
