The Orange's Magic Splash

Lily loved summer days, especially Saturdays. Every Saturday morning, she'd grab her favorite baseball—the one with the blue stripes her grandpa gave her—and head to the backyard to practice. Even though she was the smallest kid on her team, she dreamed of hitting the perfect home run one day.

One particularly hot Saturday, as Lily was wiping sweat from her forehead, her elderly neighbor Mrs. Chen called from over the fence. "Lily dear, would you like an orange from my garden? It's a special one."

The orange was unusual—brighter than any she'd ever seen, almost glowing in the sunlight. "Thank you, Mrs. Chen!" Lily said, setting it on the picnic table.

Lily picked up her baseball bat and squeezed her hands tight, just like her coach taught her. She focused on the ball her dad pitched. Whack! She hit it perfectly—but then something magical happened. The baseball curved toward the picnic table and hit the orange.

Splash!

But not a regular splash. The orange burst open not with juice, but with liquid sunshine and sparkling light. Suddenly, Lily's whole backyard transformed into the most beautiful pool she'd ever seen—but not like any pool at the community center. This one shimmered with rainbow colors, and the water felt like warm honey.

Out from the magical depths swam three friendly fish with tiny baseball caps. "We saw your hit!" squeaked the smallest fish. "Want to play?"

Lily's eyes widened with wonder. "But I can't swim underwater!"

"You don't need to breathe in our pool," the fish explained. "Just hold your nose and jump in—magic will help you!"

Lily took a deep breath, squeezed her nose, and jumped. She could breathe! She could talk! She played baseball with her new fish friends for hours, hitting splashes of water that turned into tiny stars.

When her mom called her for dinner, the pool slowly faded back into a regular backyard. The orange was gone, but in its place sat a tiny baseball cap made of seashells.

Lily learned that day that magic exists in the most unexpected places—sometimes even in an orange from a neighbor's garden. And she discovered that the best home runs aren't the ones that fly over fences, but the ones that lead to wonderful adventures and new friends.

Every Saturday after that, Lily set a baseball on the picnic table, just hoping for another magical splash.
