The Orange Pyramid's Secret
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's backyard. It was full of secrets and magic, if you knew where to look.
One warm afternoon, while chasing a beautiful orange butterfly, Lily wandered past the old oak tree and discovered something she'd never noticed before. Behind a tangle of blackberry bushes stood a small pyramid made of glowing orange stones!
"Hello there," said a scratchy voice.
Lily jumped! Behind the orange pyramid stood a greenish figure with patchy clothes and messy hair. It looked like... could it be a zombie?
"I'm Zed," the creature said, smiling gently. "And I'm not scary. I'm just a garden guardian."
Lily's fear melted away. Zed wasn't scary at all — he was friendly, with kind eyes and a gentle smile. He was tending to magical orange flowers that grew around the pyramid.
"What's this pyramid for?" Lily asked, her curiosity bubbling over.
"This is the Friendship Pyramid," Zed explained. "It grows the most special fruit in the world — oranges that make anyone who shares them friends forever."
The pyramid's orange stones pulsed with warm light. On top grew a single orange tree, filled with glowing golden oranges.
"But these oranges only work when you share them with someone new," Zed said. "Someone you might have been afraid to talk to at first."
Lily thought about the new girl at school, Maya, who sat alone at lunch. She'd looked different and acted shy, and Lily had been too nervous to say hello.
"May I pick one?" Lily asked.
Zed nodded. "But remember — magic works best with courage."
Lily plucked the warmest, brightest orange from the tree. It glowed softly in her hands, filling her with warmth and bravery.
The next day at school, Lily walked right up to Maya. "Would you like to share this orange with me?"
Maya's face lit up. As they ate the sweet, magical fruit together, they discovered they both loved drawing and adventure games. By lunchtime, they were planning to build a blanket fort together.
Lily visited Zed many times after that. She learned that sometimes the scariest-looking things can be the kindest, and the best magic is the magic of friendship and bravery.
And every time Lily made a new friend, she swore the orange pyramid glowed just a little bit brighter.
