The Orange Pyramid and the Brave Dog
Lily loved helping in her grandmother's garden, especially the spinach patch with its emerald leaves that sparkled like tiny stars in the morning sun. But her favorite part was watching Barnaby, her golden retriever, chase butterflies between the rows of vegetables.
One Tuesday, something extraordinary happened. Lily was picking spinach for dinner when she noticed a strange glow coming from behind the biggest spinach plant. She pushed aside the leaves and gasped.
There, nestled in the garden, stood a perfect pyramid made entirely of crystal-clear orange. It shone like a piece of the sun that had fallen to earth, and inside, tiny lights danced like fireflies.
Barnaby bounded over, his tail wagging furiously. The moment his nose touched the orange pyramid, it began to hum a melody that sounded like laughter mixed with wind chimes. Suddenly, the pyramid split open like a blooming flower.
Inside sat a tiny creature no bigger than Lily's thumb, with skin as green as fresh spinach and hair that flowed like orange ribbons. 'Thank you for finding me!' she squeaked. 'I'm Princess Spinachia, and I've been trapped in this orange pyramid for a hundred years!'
Lily learned that Princess Spinachia guarded the magic that made gardens grow. An envious wizard had trapped her long ago. 'Only someone pure of heart and their faithful animal companion can break the spell,' the princess explained.
Barnaby licked the princess's tiny hand, and she giggled. 'You and your brave dog have freed me!'
As thanks, Princess Spinachia waved her hand. The spinach plants around them grew taller and more vibrant than ever. 'From now on,' she promised, 'any child who helps tend a garden will find their vegetables growing twice as big and tasting twice as delicious!'
The orange pyramid dissolved into a thousand orange butterflies that danced around Lily and Barnaby before floating up to the sky. Princess Spinachia became the guardian spirit of gardens everywhere, and Lily always made sure to leave some spinach unpicked—just in case the princess needed a snack.
That night, Lily's grandmother served the most wonderful spinach salad. 'How did you grow such magnificent vegetables?' she asked. Lily winked at Barnaby, who was happily chewing on a specially large orange treat that had mysteriously appeared in his bowl.
Some magic, Lily discovered, is meant to be shared with everyone you love.
