The Orange Portal
Lily's grandpa gave her a shiny orange, saying it was special. He winked and told her to make a wish before eating it. Lily held the orange in both hands and squeezed her eyes tight. "I wish for an adventure," she whispered.
Suddenly, the orange began to glow! It floated from her hands and rolled across the floor, stopping beside her backpack. Out tumbled her iPhone—but it wasn't her phone anymore. The screen showed swirling blue water, and she could hear the sound of ocean waves.
"Touch me," the phone seemed to say.
Lily reached out. WHOOSH! She was pulled through the screen into a magical desert. Before her stood a golden pyramid, shining brighter than the sun. Beside it sat a friendly sphinx with the body of a lion and the face of a wise old woman.
"Welcome, young adventurer," the sphinx said in a voice like gentle thunder. "I have been waiting for someone brave enough to find the orange portal. My desert is lonely, and my pyramid holds secrets that need discovering."
Lily's eyes grew wide. "Are you... real?"
"As real as your imagination," the sphinx smiled. "Come, let's show you something wonderful."
They climbed the pyramid together. At the top, the sphinx touched a stone, and suddenly the desert transformed! A beautiful oasis appeared below, with crystal blue water and palm trees.
"Every desert needs water," the sphinx explained. "And every friendship needs care. You were brave enough to wish for adventure, and kind enough to share it with me."
Lily realized something important. The best adventures aren't just about excitement—they're about the friends you make along the way.
"Will I ever see you again?" Lily asked.
The sphinx handed her a small golden pyramid charm. "Whenever you hold this, remember: courage and kindness open doors to magic. Now, back home with you!"
Lily woke up on her bedroom floor, the orange still in her hand. Her iPhone lay beside her, perfectly normal again. But when she looked closer, she found a tiny golden pyramid charm in her pocket that hadn't been there before.
Grandpa peeked in. "Well? Was it a good adventure?"
Lily smiled, squeezing the charm. "The best kind—one with a new friend."
That night, Lily ate her orange and made another wish: that everyone could find magic in unexpected places, just like she had. And somewhere, far away, the sphinx purred happily, knowing her new friend would always remember: the greatest adventures start with an open heart.
