The Orange Pool of Dreams

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's cottage, where the backyard held a secret she alone knew. Behind the old oak tree stood a small pool, no bigger than a bathtub, filled with the clearest water she had ever seen. But this was no ordinary pool.

One summer afternoon, Lily peeled a juicy orange for a snack. As she finished, a single segment slipped from her fingers and splashed into the magical pool. The water began to glow, shimmering like liquid sunshine.

To Lily's amazement, ripples of orange light spread across the surface, and suddenly the most beautiful creature emerged—a tiny water sprite with hair the color of autumn leaves and skin that sparkled like dewdrops.

"Thank you for your gift," the sprite said in a voice like bubbling brooks. "I am Marina, guardian of this enchanted pool. Your orange has awakened me from my long slumber."

Lily's eyes widened with wonder. "You're real!"

Marina smiled, creating small waves that danced around her. "Magic is real for those who believe. Would you like to see what lies beneath?"

Without hesitation, Lily leaned forward. The pool's water rippled again, revealing an underwater kingdom where fish with scales like jewels swam among coral gardens. Marina explained that the pool was a gateway to dreams, and only the pure of heart could enter.

"Every orange you share," Marina whispered, "strengthens the magic between worlds."

From that day on, Lily visited Marina often, always bringing an orange as a gift of friendship. In return, Marina showed her wonders: mermaids singing lullabies, crystal caves where wishes were made, and schools of fish that performed water ballets.

But the greatest lesson came when Lily wanted to keep the magic all to herself. The pool began to dim, its waters growing cloudy.

"Magic," Marina taught gently, "grows brightest when shared."

So Lily brought her friends, and together they discovered that the real magic wasn't the pool or its wonders—it was the joy of sharing something wonderful with others.

Now, every summer, children gather around the orange pool, gifts of fruit in hand, eyes bright with wonder, hearts full of friendship. And Marina, the guardian of dreams, continues to teach them the most important lesson of all: the best magic is the magic we share.
