The Orange Pond Magic
Lily was sitting by the pond when something magical happened. Her spotted dog, Buster, nudged her hand with his wet nose, whining softly. They were best friends who went everywhere together.
'Shh, Buster,' Lily whispered. 'Look at that!'
In the middle of the pond floated a single orange peel, glowing like a tiny sunset on the water. And beneath it swam the most beautiful goldfish Lily had ever seen. Its scales shimmered like liquid sunshine, and it seemed to be dancing around the orange peel.
Lily leaned closer, careful not to fall in. The goldfish swam right up to her, its big eyes looking strangely kind and wise.
'Please,' Lily whispered, not even sure what she was asking for.
The goldfish swam in three perfect circles around the orange peel. Suddenly, the water began to sparkle and swirl. To Lily's amazement, the orange peel began to grow and grow, until it became the size of a small boat—bright orange and perfectly curved, just right for floating in.
Buster barked happily, jumping up and down.
'The goldfish gave us a boat!' Lily cried out with delight. She stepped carefully into the orange boat, and Buster hopped in beside her. Together they floated across the pond, guided by their new magical friend.
They visited places Lily had only dreamed of—a hidden island where butterflies sang like birds, a waterfall that flowed upward instead of down, and a meadow where the flowers glowed in the dark.
Each time they were about to head home, the goldfish would appear, swimming beside them as if to say, 'Not yet, there's more magic to find.'
As the sun began to set, painting the sky in shades of pink and gold, Lily knew it was time to go. The goldfish swam around their orange boat one last time, and they drifted gently back to shore.
'Thank you,' Lily called out to the pond. The goldfish leaped from the water, catching a fly in a splash of silver, then disappeared beneath the surface.
Buster licked Lily's cheek, and she knew this was the best adventure they'd ever had. Sometimes the best magic comes from unexpected friendships—and a little bit of orange.
