The Orange Papaya Pond
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's garden. It was the most magical place in the world, filled with flowers that hummed and trees that whispered secrets. But her favorite spot was the small pond behind the papaya tree.
One sunny afternoon, Lily noticed something strange. The papaya tree had grown one enormous fruit that glowed with a brilliant orange light, brighter than any sunset she had ever seen. As she stepped closer, the fruit began to tremble.
"Hello, little one," a tiny voice squeaked.
Lily gasped. A small goldfish with shimmering golden scales was swimming in the air beside her! She rubbed her eyes, but the fish was still there, floating as if the air were water.
"I'm Goldie," the fish said, flicking its tail happily. "And that glowing orange papaya is a magical wish fruit! It blooms once every hundred years, and today is the lucky day."
Lily's eyes grew wide. "A wish fruit? What does it do?"
"It grants one wish to someone with a pure heart," Goldie explained. "But you must choose wisely. The wish fruit's magic only works if you wish for something that helps others."
Lily thought hard. She could wish for infinite candy, or a castle, or to fly like a superhero. But then she remembered her little brother Tommy, who had been sad because he couldn't run fast like the other children.
"I wish," Lily said softly, "that Tommy could run and play without ever getting tired."
The orange papaya burst into a thousand tiny sparks of light that swirled around Lily and Goldie. When the sparkles settled, Lily felt warm and happy inside.
Goldie smiled. "That was the perfect wish. Because you wished for someone else's happiness, the magic will be even stronger."
The next day, Tommy was running and laughing, faster than all the other children. He never got tired, not even a little bit. Lily watched him play, her heart full of joy.
From that day on, every time Lily visited the garden, Goldie would appear, and they would have wonderful adventures together. And Lily learned that the best wishes are the ones that make others smile.
Sometimes, if you look very carefully at a garden pond, you might still see Goldie there, waiting for another kind heart to make a wish that matters.
