The Orange of True Friendship

Oliver found the perfect orange in his backyard. It glowed golden in the afternoon sun, and when he held it, the fruit felt warm and tingled in his hands like magic.

"I'll save this for something special," Oliver whispered, tucking the orange into his pocket.

That evening, as the first stars appeared, Oliver heard a sad sound coming from the forest. Following the sound, he discovered a large brown bear sitting on a mossy log, tears streaming down his furry face.

"What's wrong?" Oliver asked gently.

The bear sniffled. "My friend won't wake up. I found him like this yesterday."

Beside the bear sat a small stuffed animal with matted fur, one missing button eye, and a torn ear. He looked like a tiny zombie teddy bear - all floppy and still.

Oliver knelt beside the little bear. The orange in his pocket began to glow brighter. Suddenly, a golden sphinx appeared on the hill above them, her wings shimmering like moonlight.

"I am the Guardian of Lost Things," the sphinx spoke in a voice like wind chimes. "This little one has been forgotten and left behind. But someone remembers him."

The bear hugged the motionless stuffed bear. "I found him in the woods. I just wanted him to be my friend."

"And that," the sphinx said, smiling, "is the strongest magic of all."

Oliver took the glowing orange from his pocket and broke it in half. Golden dust sparkled in the air as he placed one half near the little zombie bear. The sphinx lowered her head, and her breath turned the orange dust into tiny stars that swirled around the stuffed toy.

One by one, the stars touched the little bear. His torn ear mended itself. His missing button eye returned, bright and new. His fur became soft and fluffy.

The little bear's button eyes blinked. He stretched his fuzzy arms and hugged the big bear tight.

"Friend!" the little bear cheered.

The sphinx vanished into sparkles, and Oliver ran home with the other half of his magical orange. But he knew the real magic wasn't the orange at all.

Friendship and love could wake up even the sleepiest hearts.
