The Orange Moon Pool
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially in summer. The backyard had a sparkling blue pool that seemed to shimmer like magic in the afternoon sun. But this year, something was different.
Buster, her grandmother's golden dog, kept barking at something beneath the water's surface. His tail wagged with excitement, and his paws danced at the pool's edge. "What is it, Buster?" Lily asked, leaning closer to see.
Through the rippling water, she noticed something glowing. It wasn't a toy or a leaf—it was an orange, but not like any orange from the grocery store. This one pulsed with soft golden light, like a tiny sun trapped beneath the water.
Grandmother came outside with a smile. "Ah, you've found the Moon Orange," she said mysteriously. "It only appears when someone needs a friend."
Lily thought about the new girl in her class, Emma, who sat alone at lunch. Emma had moved from far away and seemed lonely. Lily had wanted to say hello, but she'd felt shy.
"The Moon Orange grants one wish," Grandmother whispered. "But only if the wish comes from your heart."
Lily closed her eyes and made her wish. When she opened them, the orange drifted to the surface, glowing brighter than ever. Buster barked happily, splashing water everywhere.
The next day at school, Lily sat beside Emma at lunch. They talked about favorite games and funny stories. Emma's face lit up with the biggest smile. By the end of lunch, they had planned a playdate.
That weekend, Emma came over to swim in the magical pool. The orange bobbed in the corner, glowing softly like a tiny moon. Buster swam beside them, his golden coat shimmering in the water.
Lily learned that day that the real magic wasn't the glowing orange or the enchanted pool. The real magic was the courage to be a friend to someone who needed one. And sometimes, the best adventures start with simply saying hello.
