The Orange Moon Pool

Lily skipped through the meadow, her golden retriever Buster bouncing beside her. The sun painted the sky in shades of pink, and clutching in her hand was the most perfect orange she'd ever picked from Grandmother's tree.

"Today's the day, Buster!" she whispered.

They reached the hidden pool behind the old willow. The water shimmered like liquid silver. Legend said that under the orange harvest moon, the pool became magical.

Suddenly, something huge and brown emerged from the trees. A bull! But this was no ordinary bull — he had the gentlest brown eyes Lily had ever seen, and his horns were tipped with stardust.

"I'm Ferdinand," the bull rumbled softly. "I guard the Moon Pool. And you, little one, carry the Key."

Lily held up her orange. It glowed warmly in her palm.

"To cross," said Ferdinand, "you need a padel — a paddle of friendship to guide you."

Lily looked at Buster, who was already wagging his tail. She realized what the bull meant. Friendship was her paddle.

"Buster, will you come with me?" she asked. The dog barked happily.

Lily placed the orange on the water's surface. It didn't sink — it floated, glowing brighter and brighter. The pool transformed into a swirling tunnel of light.

"Together," Ferdinand nodded. "That's how magic works."

Hand in paw with Buster, Lily stepped onto the orange. It became a tiny boat, carrying them through a rainbow world where fish made of diamonds swam through clouds. They saw islands made of chocolate and mountains of marshmallow.

But when Lily tried to grab a chocolate flower, Buster pulled her back. The boat began to sink!

"The magic only works with a pure heart!" Ferdinand's voice echoed. "Not for greed!"

Lily let go, and the orange boat steadied. She understood now — the journey was the treasure, not what she could take.

When they emerged back at the willow tree, Ferdinand was gone, but the orange remained, now ordinary again. Yet Lily felt different inside. She had learned that true magic isn't in what you find, but in who you share it with.

That night, as she shared her orange with Buster under the stars, Lily knew the best adventures are the ones that fill your heart, not your pockets.
