The Orange Moon Magic

Lily had the curliest hair in all of Willow Creek. It bounced like little springs when she walked, and sometimes she found tiny leaves caught in it after climbing her favorite oak tree.

One evening, while brushing her hair before bed, she noticed something strange. An orange glow pulsed from her mirror! She leaned closer, and suddenly—POOF!—a tiny cat with fur the color of tangerines popped out!

"I'm Mango!" the cat announced. "And you're my new friend!" The cat had magical whiskers that twinkled like stars.

"But I was just going to sleep," Lily whispered.

"Adventure never sleeps!" Mango purred. "The Orange Moon needs us!"

Lily's own dog, Barnaby, a sleepy golden retriever, opened one eye. "I'm coming too," he yawned.

Mango tapped Lily's mirror with an orange paw, and it turned into a shimmering portal. They stepped through into a world where everything was shades of orange—orange trees, orange rivers, even orange butterflies that sang like tiny bells.

"The Orange Moon lost its glow," Mango explained sadly. "Only someone with a true heart can help."

Lily looked at her reflection in the orange river. Her curly hair seemed to shine brighter here. "What do I do?"

"Just give something of yourself," Mango said. "Something real."

Lily thought about her grandmother, who taught her to be kind. She thought about sharing her lunch with lonely kids at school. She thought about rescuing baby birds.

She reached up and pulled out one small curl. "For the moon," she said, placing it in the orange water.

The hair turned into light! It swirled upward, joining millions of other lights until the Orange Moon blazed brilliant and warm again.

"Thank you," Mango whispered. "Your kindness shines brighter than any moon."

Back in her room, Lily discovered something magical—the curl she'd given had grown back, but now it had a tiny orange streak that glowed whenever she did something kind.

Barnaby wagged his tail, and though Mango was gone, Lily felt less alone. True friendship, she realized, was the most powerful magic of all.
