The Orange Moon Bear
Lily loved exploring the forest behind her house. Every morning, she'd go running through the pine trees with her golden retriever, Max. Max would bark at butterflies and chase his tail, making Lily giggle.
One summer afternoon, while swimming in the secret creek, Lily spotted something strange. An orange glow pulsed from deep within an old hollow tree. Curious, she swam closer, with Max paddling beside her.
Inside the tree, they found a tiny bear — no bigger than a teddy bear — with fur the color of a ripe orange. The little creature shivered, frightened.
"Don't be scared," Lily whispered, cradling the gentle bear. "We're friends."
The orange bear nuzzled her hand and made a sound like wind chimes. Then something magical happened: the bear grew! Within moments, it became as tall as Lily, its fur shimmering like sunset.
"I'm Moondrop," the bear spoke softly. "I'm a moon bear, and I've lost my way home."
Lily and Max exchanged excited glances. A moon bear! A real magical creature from their bedtime stories!
"We'll help you," Lily promised. "But how do we get you home?"
Moondrop touched Lily's forehead with a glowing paw. Suddenly, she understood — moon bears lived on the orange moon that appeared only when children believed in magic. And tonight was the Night of Two Moons!
They climbed the highest hill together, Max running ahead excitedly. When the first moon rose, Moondrop began to glow. But the orange moon didn't appear.
"You don't believe hard enough," Moondrop said sadly.
Lily closed her eyes and remembered: the warmth of her mother's hugs, the taste of chocolate chip cookies, Max's wet kisses, the sound of rain on the roof. All the things that made the world wonderful.
"I believe in magic," she shouted toward the stars. "I believe in friendship and wonder and things I can't explain!"
The sky sparkled. An orange moon rose beside the white one, glowing like a giant peach. A beam of light reached down, and Moondrop floated upward.
"Thank you for believing," the bear called. "Remember: magic lives wherever there's kindness."
As Moondrop vanished into the orange moon, something landed in Lily's palm — an orange marble that glowed like tiny starlight.
Walking home under two moons, Max trotting proudly beside her, Lily knew this wasn't a dream. Some nights, when she held the orange marble to the window, she could hear distant wind chimes.
And sometimes, just sometimes, a bear-shaped shadow would dance across the orange moon, waving hello.
