The Orange Lightning Spy

Lily was not a real spy. She just liked to spy on special things that other people missed. Like the way dewdrops turned into tiny diamonds in the morning, or how clouds sometimes looked like fluffy animals. Every day after school, she would grab her magnifying glass and notebook and go on her spy adventures.

One hot afternoon, Lily was spying near the old creek behind her house. The water sparkled like someone had sprinkled millions of glittering stars across the surface. She was watching a dragonfly zoom around when something caught her eye. Something orange and bright was floating downstream.

"What is that?" Lily whispered, creeping closer to the water's edge.

The orange thing bobbed and weaved like it was dancing. As it got closer, Lily gasped. It wasn't a thing at all—it was a tiny glowing fish with scales the color of a sunset! The fish swam right to Lily's feet and splashed water droplets that shimmered like liquid rainbows.

"Hello, little friend," said Lily, kneeling down. The fish jumped out of the water and did a flip, making her laugh. Its scales flashed brighter than any fish she had ever seen.

Suddenly, dark clouds gathered overhead. Thunder rumbled like a giant tummy. The orange fish looked worried. It swam in frantic circles.

"You're scared of the storm?" Lily asked gently. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a special orange marble she carried for good luck. "Don't worry. I'll stay with you."

CRACK! Lightning flashed across the sky in brilliant zigzags. But instead of running away, Lily noticed something magical. Every time the lightning flashed, the orange fish glowed even brighter, sending out ripples of golden light across the dark water.

"You're not scared," Lily realized with wonder. "You need the lightning!"

The fish jumped again, and this time tiny sparks of light danced around it. The lightning was giving the fish its magical glow. The storm wasn't scary—it was a beautiful light show that made her new friend shine.

Lily sat by the creek as the rain fell gently around her, watching the orange fish glow with every flash of lightning. She realized that sometimes the things we think are scary can actually be magical if we look at them differently.

From that day on, Lily visited her orange friend before every storm. She learned that being a spy wasn't just about watching—it was about seeing the wonder in unexpected places, especially in friendship.
