The Orange Lightning Secret
Emma loved thunderstorms. She would press her nose against the window, watching lightning paint the sky in bright zigzags. But tonight was different.
During the biggest lightning flash Emma had ever seen, something small and round tumbled down from the sky and landed softly in her garden. It was glowing!
Emma rushed outside in her raincoat. There, lying in the grass, was the most beautiful orange she had ever seen. It shimmered like a tiny moon.
"That's strange," she whispered. "Oranges don't fall from the sky."
The orange rolled toward her feet, and suddenly, Emma could hear a tiny voice coming from it! "Psst! Can you help me?"
Emma picked up the glowing orange. "Who said that?"
"Me! The orange! I'm actually a magical spy from the Cloud Kingdom. My name is Zippy!"
Emma's eyes went wide. "A spy orange? That's amazing!"
"I was sent to find someone kind and brave," Zippy explained. "In the old graveyard nearby, there's a lonely zombie named Sparkle. She's not scary — she's just cursed! Every night at lightning time, she dances all by herself, hoping someone will be her friend. But everyone runs away because they think she's frightening."
Emma's heart went out to Sparkle. "That's so sad. I'll be her friend!"
Zippy glowed brighter. "I knew you were special! Take me to her. The magic in this orange can break her curse — but only if given by a true friend."
Hand in hand with her new orange friend, Emma walked to the graveyard. There she saw Sparkle — a greenish figure with messy hair, dancing clumsily in the moonlight. She looked more lonely than scary.
"Hello?" Emma called softly.
Sparkle stopped dancing. Her eyes widened. "You... you're not running away?"
"Of course not!" Emma stepped forward. "I brought you a gift." She held out the magical orange. "Zippy told me you needed a friend."
Tears filled Sparkle's eyes. "A friend? For me?"
Emma placed the orange in Sparkle's hand. Suddenly, lightning flashed across the sky, and the orange's magic burst forth like golden fireworks! Sparkle's greenish skin turned a healthy pink, her messy hair became smooth and shiny, and she glowed with happiness.
"Thank you," Sparkle whispered, hugging Emma tight. "I'll never be lonely again."
And every storm after that, Emma, Zippy, and Sparkle would have lightning dance parties together — the best friends anyone could ever ask for.
Emma learned that day that sometimes, the scariest things just need a little kindness — and the best magic of all is friendship.
