The Orange Lightning Runner
Max was running through the meadow, his sneakers thumping against the soft grass. The sky had turned a deep, dark purple, and fat raindrops began to fall. Max loved storms—they made the world feel magical and mysterious.
Suddenly, something caught his eye. An orange butterfly, glowing like a tiny lantern, fluttered around his head. But this wasn't an ordinary butterfly. Every time its wings fluttered, little sparks of lightning danced around them!
"Follow me!" the butterfly seemed to say, zooming toward the old forest at the edge of town.
Max's heart raced as he ran after it, dodging raindrops and jumping over puddles. The orange glow guided him deeper into the woods, where the trees grew tall and shadowy. There, beside a hollow oak tree, the butterfly stopped.
A small creature shivered in the rain—a baby fox with the softest orange fur, trembling and alone. The butterfly landed gently on the fox's nose, and its lightning wings warmed the little creature like a tiny heater.
Max knelt down. "You're scared, aren't you?" he whispered.
The fox nodded, its big brown eyes wide with fear. A loud CRACK of thunder made it jump.
"Don't worry," Max said, wrapping his jacket around the little fox. "I'll stay with you until the storm passes."
For an hour, Max sat with the fox, telling stories and watching the orange butterfly dance in the rain. When the storm finally faded and the sun peeked through the clouds, the fox's mother appeared, nuzzling her baby gratefully.
The orange butterfly soared into the sky, leaving a trail of sparkles behind it. Max waved goodbye, his heart feeling warm and full. Sometimes, he realized, the biggest magic isn't lightning or glowing butterflies—it's simply being there for someone who needs you.
As Max walked home, he noticed something in his pocket. A single orange feather, glowing softly with tiny lightning bolts. Some magic stays with you forever, especially the magic of kindness.
