The Orange Lightning Bug
Emma sat alone on her front porch swing, watching storm clouds gather in the darkening sky. She was new to the neighborhood, and hadn't made any friends yet.
A brilliant flash of **lightning** streaked across the purple clouds, followed by a soft rumble of thunder. Then something magical happened. A tiny glowing creature floated down from the sky — but it wasn't an ordinary firefly. This little bug glowed a bright, shimmering **orange**, like a miniature piece of sunshine.
The orange bug landed gently on Emma's knee. Its glow was warm against her skin.
"Hello there," Emma whispered, holding out her finger.
The lightning bug crawled onto her hand and pulsed with happiness. Emma named her Sparkle.
Inside, Emma's mother was peeling **orange**s for a snack. She called Emma inside, but Sparkle followed, hovering near the ceiling with her beautiful orange glow.
That night, Emma lay in bed feeling lonely. Sparkle flew through her open window and landed on her pillow.
"You're my best **friend**," Emma said softly.
Sparkle glowed brighter, filling the room with warm orange light. Emma realized something wonderful: she didn't need to wait for friends to come to her. She could be a friend too.
The next day, Emma walked to the park with Sparkle hiding in her pocket. She saw a girl sitting alone on a bench. Emma remembered how it felt to be lonely.
She sat beside the girl. "I'm Emma. Do you want to play?"
The girl smiled. "I'm Lily. Yes!"
Sparkle flew out and did a happy dance in the air, her orange glow twinkling like a tiny star.
"Wow!" Lily gasped. "She's beautiful!"
Emma laughed. "She's my friend. And now you're my friend too."
The three of them played until sunset, and Emma learned that friendship, like sparkles, is brightest when shared.
